Julie Wilson & Amy Livingstone, Cheeky Chompers
Amy and Julie first met at an antenatal class when they were eight months pregnant with their first children. As young mums, they spotted a gap in the market for a teething product that would stay attached to a baby, and decided to develop their own.
They incorporated the company in August 2012 with initial funding raised via family and friends (all now repaid) and the prize money from winning the Scottish EDGE competition. In February 2013 Cheeky Chompers officially launched with their innovative Neckerchew, “The world’s first chewable dribble bib for teething tots”.
It was a busy first year – Cheeky Chompers quickly established a direct retail network in the UK and a distribution network overseas. Today they count major retailers like John Lewis, JoJo Maman Bebe, Joules, Boots and M&S amongst their UK customers and they now sell in over 30 countries.
Following the success of the Neckerchew, in 2014 they launched the Comfortchew, a chewableable comforter that can be attached to the child/buggy. In April this year Julie and Amy began producing Neckerchews in larger sizes in order to cater for children and adults with special needs. Although the baby market will continue to be the main target for Cheeky Chompers’ products, the initial response from the special needs market has been very positive.
In November 2015, Cheeky Chompers were awarded Entrepreneurial Scotland's Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award and were speakers at the ES Annual Conference 2016.
Cheeky Chompers are focusing on the US, Chinese and South Korean markets, while maintaining and expanding its portfolio of UK national retailers as well as launching two exciting new products and planning a range of stylish products that aim to make parents’ lives easier.
