Come meet and and hear the stories from the staff and startups driving RGU’s new innovation agenda. Professor Gordon McConnell, Vice Principal for Commercial and Regional Innovation will share his experience of developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem in countries across the world from the United States to Saudi Arabia and the new initiatives launched at over the past year at RGU. We will then hear from student and staff businesses who have participated in the first funding Startup Accelerator programme on their experiences of developing a new business and the challenges they have faced so far. From each perspective we will explore the highs, lows and impact from develop early-stage businesses in Scotland and what impact the fourth industrial revolution is having both on the university and on startup businesses.

Professor Gordon McConnell

Vice Principal for Commercial and Regional Innovation at Robert Gordon University

Gordon is a Vice Principal for Commercial and Regional Innovation at Robert Gordon University and has a diverse background in entrepreneurship and developing startups. Prior to joining RGU he held the title of Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) from 2016 and was the Head of the KAUST Entrepreneurship Center from 2014 until December 2017. During his time there he developed innovation teaching strategies, hosted student innovation challenges, a corporate innovation programme as well as startup accelerator programmes.
