Social entrepreneurs are described as “individuals harnessing the power of business to address society’s most pressing social problems” and they are changing the world. The Deloitte Millennial Survey 2016 found that ‘almost nine in 10 (87 percent) millennials believe that “the success of a business should be measured in terms of more than just its financial performance.”

After serving with The RAF, Gavin Neate began an 18-year career with Guide Dogs for the Blind.  His comprehensive knowledge of visual impairment and routine experience of poorly installed pedestrian crossings led him to design a unique system by which any person living with reduced mobility, could safely and automatically operate a pedestrian crossing using their own smart technology.  Their success has led to a range of smart solutions based on the challenges disabled people face every day and his latest development, 'Welcome', is providing a smart platform which is performing the simplest and most important of tasks, the improvement of human to human interaction between people with disability and those without.

Collette Norval heads up the newly launched social start-up, Social Stuff Ltd, creators of SQUAD. Based in Aberdeen, the social enterprise manufactures multifunctional performance snoods for sports supporters and outdoor enthusiasts across Scotland, with the aim of giving 100% of its profits to charities and good causes. Since launching in 2016, the social enterprise has produced SQUADs for several Scottish Premiership football clubs including Aberdeen FC and Celtic FC.

Join us and our wonderful chair for the evening, Rachael Brown to find out more about the entrepreneurs disrupting their industries in order to do good.
