Reflctions on my internship and what’s next for me!

Saltire Scholar week 10 blog: Reflections on my internship and what’s next for me.

Hello and welcome back to my tenth and final blog. This weeks theme is “Reflections on my internship and what’s next for me”. I can’t believe I have now finished my internship at Renfrewshire Council. For this theme, I want to look back at my initial goals for my internship and explore what I have achieved during my time at Renfrewshire Council.

The last week of my internship.

In my last week of my internship, myself and the other Saltire Scholar Ellen, had the opportunity to carry out some fun fundraising activities. We held a bake sale and sold a variety of yummy treats we had made to staff in our workplace. We also sold raffle tickets for a raffle that we held with a variety of fantastic prizes. Overall, we managed to raise a fantastic amount of money for both Entreprenurial Scotland and Love Leigh. Fundraising was a fantastic experience and a great way to finish our internship.

Reflection on my initial goals.

My initial goals for my internship were:

  • To embrace all opportunities. For this goal, I would like to focus on the idea of embracing all opportunities with vigour.
  • To build my knowledge. For this goal, I would like to focus on the idea of continuously learning. I hope to learn a lot of new knowledge and develop my transferable skills.

Have I achieved my goals?

I feel that I have definitely achieved my initial goals at my internship. My time at Renfrewshire Council has allowed me many fantastic opportunities such as working with different teams and on different projects. I feel that I have embraced all opportunities that my internship has provided me with, and it has been a fantastic opportunity. My goal of building my knowledge during my internship has been achieved. Prior to starting my internship, I knew that I wanted to make the most of this opportunity and focus on improving my knowledge.  My time at Renfrewshire Council has allowed me to improve my knowledge on so many different topics and has really improved my knowledge and understanding of different issues.

What have I achieved personally and professionally from my internship?

I feel that I have grown so much from my time at Renfrewshire Council and have grown both personally and professionally.

Confidence - I feel that my internship has really helped to grow my confidence. Receiving fantastic feedback has  made me believe more in my own capabilities.

Communication- I feel that my internship has allowed me to develop my communication skills. Through attending meetings and working with different teams I feel that my internship has allowed me the opportunity to confidently communicate to others my ideas and opinions.

Networking- My internship has allowed me to meet several new people, this has allowed me to develop  my networking skills and build positive working relationships with a variety of different people.

Adaptability- My internship has allowed me to develop my adaptability skills. Through working on different projects with different people, I have learned the importance  of being adaptable.

Time management skills-  My internship has allowed me to develop my time management skills. Working to different deadlines and meeting with different people has allowed me to work on effectively managing my time.

What’s Next for me?

After my internship, I will be going into my final year of my degree at the University of the West of Scotland. My internship has allowed me to feel motivated and excited to start my final year. As for what the future holds for me, I’m not quite sure. All I know, is that my time as a Saltire Scholar at Renfrewshire Council is something that will remember fondly forever.
