Alan McFarlane

Senior Partner, Dundas Global Investors

Alan Is the Senior Partner of Dundas Global Investors, an Edinburgh based global equity management firm which he started in 2010. His career in investment began in 1980 at ICFC, now 3i Group, where he worked on finance for private companies in east central Scotland. He joined Ivory & Sime plc in 1983, becoming a director in 1990. In 1993 he joined Global Asset Management in London to establish its institutional investment management business before returning to Edinburgh to join Walter Scott & Partners Ltd in 2001 where we was Chief Executive until 2009. During his period there, Walter Scott & Partners was acquired by BNY Mellon just in time for the 2007/08 crash. The majority of his career has focused on global equity portfolio management for institutional investors.

He is Chairman of Reform Scotland, the independent think-tank focusing on economic and social policy and a trustee of the Edinburgh International Culture Summit. He is past chair of Columba 1400, a leading charity helping young people across Scotland. He was chair of the University of Edinburgh Endowment Fund. He was a member of the working party considering the proposed Scottish National Investment Bank. He was a trustee of the Saltire Foundation for three years prior to its merger with the Entrepreneurial Exchange.
