Malcolm graduated in Law from Edinburgh University in 1986 and subsequently embarked on a successful 26-year career in The City of London with Lazard, 3i and Bankers Trust Company of New York. In 1998 he joined Charterhouse as a Partner and remained there for 16 years investing four European private equity funds before retiring as Senior Partner in December 2013. During this period, Malcolm invested £2 billion of equity capital in eight UK companies and achieved successful exits for investors equating to 2.8x invested capital. In 2014 Malcolm returned to Scotland and established Badenoch & Co., a boutique family office providing private equity investment in Scottish SMEs which share the MISSA philosophy of “Made in Scotland, Sold Abroad”. Badenoch’s first investment in 2014 was in Cashmaster, a technology company which manufactures count-by-weight cash counting devices in Dalgety Bay. Badenoch’s second investment in 2015 was in The Borders Distillery, a brand new whisky distillery being built in Hawick.
