Richard is founder and Chairman of Vets Now Ltd. Qualifying as a vet in 1993 from Glasgow University, Richard then worked in general practice before returning to Glasgow where he gained his PhD in 2000 and founded Vets Now Ltd in 2001. Vets Now provides dedicated Out Of Hours emergency and critical care for the clients of more than 1000 veterinary practices and employs c1500 permanent staff. The company has revolutionised the delivery of Out Of Hours pet care in the UK and grown to its current annual turnover of more than £50M since launch. Vets Now have been awarded a number of awards including the CBI / Real business Young Company of the Year.
Richard has been previously awarded the Entrepreneurial Exchange's Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year, the IoD Regional Director of the Year award and the University of Glasgow's "Young Alumnus". In 2009 he became the youngest ever President of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2010.
Richard is a Board member of Entrepreneurial Scotland and outside work, is married to another vet, Jan. Has three young sons who are all more clever, better looking and superior at sports than any of his friends children. He is a qualified private helicopter pilot, in the process of learning French and still wants to become an Astronaut.
