Our Saltire Scholars are ambitious, energetic, creative and seek to challenge themselves. Through our mission to find, fuel and spark the next generation of leaders for Scotland we are looking for individuals who are eager to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set, and are prepared to give back in return for the opportunity afforded to them.
The Saltire Scholar programme is open to all students in their penultimate year of study at a Scottish university. In 2016 we had over 40 degree disciplines represented as part of our cohort which means whether you’re studying to be a social worker, a physicist or a historian you could have the attitude and ability to gain an internship through the programme.
Being offered this opportunity was truly a professional and personal triumph for myself as it showed that my contribution to my team and to the company was impactful and meaningful.
Being able to intern so far from home and live there for two months, I proved to myself that I was capable of establishing my own life, away from the safety net that I have in Scotland.
As a Product Design student, I found many opportunities where my practice and skills could be utilised during my placement and beyond. This internship gave me valuable insight into industry and where I could see myself in the near future.
Prior to taking part in a Saltire internship I was nervous about my first step into the corporate world, it just seemed so daunting. Now I know I have the skills to make a positive impact in almost any company.
My internship taught me a alot about myself as a person and made me realise I should be more confident in my abilities! One of my proudest moments was when I produced a report that my manager found so useful she asked for it to be produced weekly and for it to continue after I left.
