At Entrepreneurial Scotland, our guiding ethos is "An entrepreneurial Scotland is a prosperous Scotland". Underpinning this ethos is an understanding that to help create a prosperous society, we need ambitious leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset to help deliver growth, quality jobs, investment and innovation in Scotland. A prosperous society is built by people, so we need to invest in empowering more people who can drive that prosperity. I joined Entrepreneurial Scotland in March as the Head of Community & Philanthropy, after ten years working in philanthropy for the University of Glasgow. I have always been passionate about education and have helped to raise millions in donations to promote access to and deliver excellence in universities. In Scotland we are blessed with higher education institutions specialising in all major disciplines and expertise. Education can empower individuals to reach their full potential and plays a vital role in driving innovation, economic growth, and social progress. But despite this strength, Scotland is still not delivering on its entrepreneurial promise. We need leaders who can not only recognise a good idea when they see it, but who can then harness the idea and deliver it. For this, we need to develop more entrepreneurial leaders and an ecosystem that helps connect and support them through their journey.
