Anna Ewing, Digital Marketing Intern, International Beverage

Anna Ewing, a MA International Relations and Modern Languages Student at the University of St Andrews, shares her experience as a Digital Marketing Intern at International Beverage.

Looking back on the last 12 weeks at International Beverage as a Digital Marketing intern, I have learned so much in such a short space of time and my internship has truly flown by! The team has been so welcoming and friendly, making my time here so enjoyable.

I’ve worked on a variety of projects throughout the internship, and I’ve gained a range of valuable skills across Digital Marketing. I’ve recently delivered and designed emails for a special single cask release and an email journey for one of our brands. This has given me a sense of responsibility and shown me how much my work has improved since my I started in June. I also conducted two social media audits independently, identifying ways to contribute to brand visibility growth online. Additionally, I’ve created social media posts for various brands and scheduled these for the coming months. I feel proud to have contributed towards the work of the Digital team and it’s been extremely rewarding seeing my work posted online.

Most importantly, my internship has not only allowed me to develop professionally, but also as a person. I’ve grown more confident and pushed myself out of my comfort zone, taking every opportunity to get involved in events and projects at work. One example of this was volunteering at the Whisky Fringe Edinburgh in August, sharing my knowledge of our brands with whisky lovers from around the world. I surprised myself with how much I had learned over the internship about our 6 single malt whiskies. I’ve developed a real passion for the drinks industry and this internship has confirmed for me that I want to work in this sector in the future.

This experience hasn’t been all about work and I’ve had great opportunities to get to know other members of the team. I recently played in a ProAm at Easter Moffat, a club which the company sponsors. This was a great opportunity to meet other staff at the company who work in other departments.

I cannot recommend this experience enough to future students. As a graduate, this internship has given me a sense of drive and direction for a future career in marketing and in the drinks industry. It has shown me how the skills I learned at university can be applicable to a career path that differs from my degree. Working at International Beverage has also confirmed and further inspired my passion for international communication, public relations and language.

I’m excited for the next chapter and will be keeping in touch with the team at International Beverage. As an ambassador for the Saltire programme, I hope give back to the programme so other scholars can have the same opportunities. Thank you to the Saltire Team and International Beverage for this fantastic learning experience!
