This summer, I am interning with Ascensos, where I am working closely with their HR team. My main project involves enhancing employee relations. My responsibilities include assisting with disciplinary actions, gathering feedback from employees, and supporting both employees and managers with various HR-related queries and tasks. I am excited about this project because it allows me to gain hands-on experience in HR practices and contribute to a critical aspect of employee engagement and workplace harmony.
I believe I’m settling in really well at Ascensos. The HR team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, which has made my transition smooth. From the start, they entrusted me with meaningful responsibilities, dealing with queries from employees and managers. This trust has given me a sense of belonging.
To further integrate into the company, I have actively participated in meetings and talked to people from different departments, which has helped me build strong relationships with my colleagues and understand the company culture better.
Entering this internship, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but it has far surpassed my initial expectations and ignited my passion for the HR field. The unwavering support from my company has been instrumental in my learning journey, allowing me to dive deep into the complexities of the HR world. Through hands-on experience, I've acquired a vast amount of knowledge, from understanding the intricacies of employee relations to mastering the art of effective communication. Professionally, I've become more confident in my abilities to handle real-world HR challenges, and personally, I've grown in my capacity to collaborate and adapt to new environments. This internship has not only solidified my interest in HR but has also laid a strong foundation for my future career.
I had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, each offering unique challenges and learning experiences. My involvement in the redundancy process, as well as supporting investigations, hearings, and appeals, has deepened my understanding of critical HR functions. Additionally, I took the lead in chairing employee feedback meetings, which led to actionable insights and tangible improvements in employee engagement. The highlight of my project work was developing a learning needs analysis tailored for managers within the organisation. This initiative, driven by my passion for continuous learning, resulted in the creation of workshops and resources that have empowered managers to lead more effectively. I believe these efforts have not only added value to the organisation but have also contributed to a more engaged and knowledgeable leadership team.
One of the most significant lessons I've learned is that no one has all the answers, and that’s perfectly okay. The ability to listen, collaborate, and brainstorm solutions collectively is invaluable. This experience has taught me the importance of being open to different perspectives and working as a team to navigate challenges. As I move forward in my career, I will carry with me the understanding that successful outcomes often come from a shared effort, where diverse ideas and experiences converge to create innovative solutions.
The most rewarding aspect of my journey has been the opportunity to make a meaningful difference within the company through my management training initiative. Seeing the positive impact of the training programme on the managers, and how it has enhanced their leadership capabilities, has been incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that my work has contributed to the growth and development of others is a highlight that I will cherish as I continue my professional journey.
As I reach the end of my internship, I’m filled with a mix of emotions—gratitude, excitement, and a touch of nostalgia. This experience has been transformative, and while I’m sad to be leaving behind the team and projects that have become a significant part of my life, I’m also excited about what lies ahead. This internship has not only equipped me with the skills and confidence to succeed in my future career but has also solidified my passion for HR.
