During my internship, I made significant strides in both my personal and professional development. One of the most valuable skills I gained was effective communication within a team, particularly through virtual platforms like Google Meet and Chat. This was crucial in a global company like Indie, where I regularly interacted with team members across different time zones.
In terms of technical skills, I became proficient in handling key finance tasks such as accounts payable and accounts receivable. I now have hands-on experience with AR chase processes, bill input, and vendor creation for AP. Additionally, my skills in Excel improved drastically, which I know will be invaluable both in my university studies and future career in finance. I also learned how to conduct flux analysis and account reconciliation, which has enhanced my understanding of financial processes.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was coordinating with the US finance team on a project, which involved overcoming communication barriers due to time differences. This experience taught me the importance of flexibility and the ability to adapt, as I had to stay late to ensure smooth collaboration. Overcoming this challenge has given me greater confidence in my ability to learn quickly and adapt to real-time challenges with significant consequences.
One of the key lessons I learned during my internship was the importance of attention to detail and forward-thinking. By planning ahead and focusing on accuracy, I was able to prevent potential issues and save time in the long run. This experience has taught me how to work more effectively, a lesson that I will carry with me throughout my career and life.
My internship at Indie Semiconductors was incredibly worthwhile. Not only did I gain valuable industry connections and learn a great deal about how a business operates.
