From Questions to Inspiration.

I have already been given important responsibilities, and every day I am excited about going to work because the effort that I put into the projects is making a tangible impact." “It’s too competitive” “I am not good enough” “I’ll never get into the programme” “I am not even Scottish!” These are just some of the thoughts that were going through my head before and during the process of submitting my application for the Saltire Scholars programme. I often doubted myself, feeling conscious about all these other great students I had to meet, feeling like I was out of place, like my skills were not going to match theirs.

Then question after question, stage after stage, without even realising it, I was staring at 100-odd outstanding internship opportunities, trying to pick the one that would match my skills best and spark my interest the most. I must admit, I was very lucky, my perfect internship was waiting for me in the first batch of opportunities released.

Fast forward to now, 6 weeks into my internship, typing while commuting back to Glasgow from Edinburgh, feeling really inspired and accomplished. I never would have thought that I could learn so much in only 5 weeks: my internship with Investment Tribe covers a variety of business aspects including compliance, marketing, market research, human resources, renovations, and operations management.

I have already been given important responsibilities, and every day I am excited about going to work because the effort that I put into the projects is making a tangible impact.

On top of all the great perks that my internship offers (including the company of the one and only Chief Motivator Officer, Ted) I was given the chance to undertake coaching sessions with Colette Grant, a brilliant businesswoman who is helping me overcome my fears and doubts and understand what I would like my future to look like.

She is helping Sofia and I to develop our networking skills and make connections, she even organised a networking event where I had the chance to meet Sean McGrath, the CEO of Entrepreneurial Scotland. Funny story: after the barbecue, Sean and I ended up getting on the train back to Glasgow together and had a fantastic conversation!

The halfway mark has been reached and I can’t believe how much I have already experienced; I look forward to the remaining 5 weeks!
