My first two weeks as an intern at Cavell Risk in Toronto have been incredibly enjoyable and insightful. My main responsibilities in my role include quote comparisons, using PowerPoint and excel to prepare data for clients and helping my colleagues with policy renewals and using the ‘epic’ software to organise data.
From day one, I was struck by the friendly atmosphere at Cavell and the supportive culture has not only facilitated my professional development but also made my daily work experience enjoyable. I have been to several social events with the team including dinners, an insurance broker networking event and pizza in the park!
I have had the chance to work collaboratively with team members on tasks such as policy documents and policy renewals. I have also had the opportunity to shadow my colleagues in their daily tasks, from quote comparisons to client meetings, this was really insightful and allowed me to gain a better understanding of the role they play in the company. I have also attended several seminars with my colleagues to gain more understanding of the world of insurance brokerage such as directors and officers liability.
Whether it’s enjoying an ice cream in the park after work or cycling around Toronto island, I feel like I have now found my bearings and adjusted to a new routine!
