Joe Murray, Marketing Intern, The HR Practice Limited

International Marketing Student, Glasgow Caledonian University

Reflecting on my first two weeks here, I can confidently say it’s been an incredible start, full of learning, growth, and exciting opportunities.

Coming into this role, I had a foundational understanding of marketing from my studies and previous internships. However, applying this knowledge to a new setting has been enlightening. I've quickly learned that marketing within an HR consultancy involves a unique blend of strategies tailored to create communications that resonate with a diverse group of current and potential clients, all with different wants and needs. From creating engaging social media content to networking, I’ve quickly gained hands-on experience that has significantly heightened my understanding of the field.

One of the highlights of my initial time here has been attending three fantastic networking events. These events have both enhanced my understanding of the business community in Glasgow and allowed me to connect with an array of interesting and helpful professionals. Each event offered unique insights into different aspects of business. I’ve had the privilege of engaging in meaningful conversations with industry leaders, which has been both inspiring and educational. These connections are invaluable, and I’m eager to continue building on these relationships throughout my internship.

At one of the events, I had the pleasure of engaging with a marketing veteran with over 25 years of experience. They shared invaluable insights into developing effective marketing strategies, understanding your customer, and the importance of adaptability in marketing campaigns. Their wisdom has provided me with new perspectives and practical tips that I can apply directly to my work here at The HR Practice.

The team at The HR Practice has been incredibly welcoming, making my onboarding process smooth and enjoyable. Everyone is eager to share their knowledge and support my learning journey. The collaborative and supportive environment has encouraged me to ask questions, seek feedback, and continually improve my skills. I feel fortunate to be part of such a knowledgeable and dedicated team.

This internship is not just about gaining work experience; it’s about developing skills that will shape my future career. I’m committed to making the most of this opportunity.
