The first few weeks…
I am interning at Target Healthcare as an IT intern. My main responsibilities are to help members of the company with their technical issues involving: permissions, calendars, monitors, printers, hardware, networking and a multitude of other issues through their services with help desk. I have assisted with onboarding new laptops through the process of imaging and ghosting as well as maintaining user accounts through datto and Intune. Helping various company members through Remote Desktop services. Learning about networking and using user management software such as Intune.
My main project with IT is to see if a universal printing system would be viable for the company and writing documentation and testing the roll out of this feature throughout the different locations of the company located throughout the UK. Figuring out the viability and how to onboard the system practically and efficiently.
I am also working with the software development team and the other IT interns , using technologies which are new to me such as symfony (a php framework).Using it to develop a web app for inventory on their medication system which we will demonstrate in front of the head of the board of directors at the end of the internship. Which will then be evaluated if it can be used for the company and its clients.
My professional goals are to become more familiar with IT in a practical environment and to understand more of the intricacies of how IT is maintained and run at a large company and have applicable skills in the future.
Everyone is really nice and always there to help and I feel like a colleague more than an actual intern. I am treated with a lot of respect. Being able to shadow members of the department has really helped get to grips with fundamentals of an IT role and helped accelerate my learning in only these short amount of weeks. I feel like I’m a valued member of the team as well as feeling at home when I come to work everyday.
