My first week as an engineer intern at Wessington Cryogenics has been an exciting experience. My project involves designing a user interface to assist the design team in quickly and easily updating thousands of existing CAD drawings, which I will be working on alongside the other engineer intern. The interface will include a search function, allowing users to look up a component and immediately see all the drawings that include it. This will save the team a significant amount of time, as they won't need to search through each file individually. We will need to learn new programming languages and software for this project, which is a big challenge, but I'm looking forward to it.
The company is relatively small, so I've had the opportunity to meet almost everyone in the office. From day one, I have felt very welcomed, and I feel like my work and opinions matter. The other intern and I attend the weekly design team meetings, where we get to see the projects they are working on and how they are progressing. I believe this internship will be a fantastic opportunity to understand what a real job is like and get used to working with different people and departments.
