I can safely say, this has been one of the best summers of my life and I could never have done it without the Saltire Programme. These past few months working with Amy Roos and the rest of the indie team have been incredible and I would quite happily recommend them to any future Saltire Scholars. I have learned and contributed so much – from sourcing candidates to helping run the global internship programme – it has been an amazing experience, both professionally and personally.
I developed an executive speaker series which gave interns the opportunity to rub shoulders and hear from high level executives such as the CEO, VP of HR, and head of staff among many others. Not every company gives staff members, let alone interns, these kinds of opportunities, and it has allowed us to get ourselves out there and network with these people.
We also got the opportunity to travel whilst we were here, seizing every opportunity to make the most of our time here. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Vegas are just a few of the places we visited. We got to meet new people, experience new things, and see things we have only ever seen on television!
I also want to further highlight my mentor Amy under whose guidance I have been allowed to flourish and soak up as much information and skills as possible. She has been my biggest cheerleader, always encouraging me and helping me be better. She always goes above and beyond for me whenever I need something – even if I don’t know it yet, from sending In-N-Out after we just landed to researching Hotels for us to stay in in Vegas. She is truly incredible, and I cannot express how grateful I am to her for everything she has done for me.
I want to conclude by saying I am so grateful for this opportunity. I applied to this on a whim, not really thinking anything of it and it has led to the best experience of my life, friendships forged to last a lifetime, and even an extension on my internship that could potentially lead to a job! If anyone reading this is debating applying to the Saltire Scholar Programme – I cannot recommend it enough.
