This summer I am interning with CyberArk as an investment relations intern. My main responsibilities so far have involved lots of research on the ongoing projects and the recent acquisition that CyberArk have undertaken. My upcoming roles will revolve a lot around the ESG report and the overall ESG score of CyberArk and working on how to improve the environmental sustainability of the company. This is a project which excites me as the role itself of investment relations would not be expected to have such involvement with environmental sustainability, which is something that I am interested in, showing how flexible these roles can be.
My main personal goals for this summer are to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone when undertaking new experiences in a new country to get the most out of this opportunity. Professionally, I hope to leave a lasting positive impression on all those I encounter within the working environment and hope to form connections that will be useful in my future career.
The company has been incredibly supportive during this transition, making settling in very easy. All the staff at CyberArk have been so friendly, making me feel at ease in the environment and making it comfortable to ask for help when necessary. My line manager has been extremely proactive in setting up meetings for myself with various members of staff within different departments in CyberArk. This has allowed me to expand my understanding of the company further than what I will learn within the investment relations team.
Initially the travel was a task I found very daunting, but I was quickly relaxed when I met up with other saltire scholars in the airport and we all helped each other get to Boston from Edinburgh! At first, I wasn’t put off by being in a new place as I study away from home as a student in Edinburgh. I did quickly realize there is a bit of a culture shock being on a different continent, but it has become exciting experiencing all the differences rather than a negative. The main issue I have found over here is the time difference, making it difficult to have good communication with family and friends at home. This is a good opportunity for personal growth as I hope to work abroad in the future, it may be something I will have to get used to so it can be used as a learning experience.
As previously mentioned, CyberArk have been extremely accommodating but I must admit I was very nervous starting on my first day. I quickly learned there are no expectations of you to be the finished article and you are expected to have gaps in your knowledge, which is why you are here to learn. Also, it is a bonus that Americans (in my experience) tend to love a “British accent” so any time I have been nervous to speak to some
