Over the summer, I had the brilliant opportunity to work as an AI Production Intern at LS Productions in Leith. Over the course of this 12-week internship, I gained confidence and valuable insight into the career pathways available to me after university.
I first discovered the Saltire Scholarship Programme through Abertay University’s career service newsletter. As a student studying for a BSc (Hons) in Computer Games Technology, I was uncertain whether I would find an opportunity relevant to the skills and experiences I hoped to develop before entering my final year of university.
Little did I know that the team at Saltire were having similar thoughts - unsure whether they would find a suitable candidate for the role LS Productions was offering. My degree had given me a unique perspective - situated between technology, creative work, and media - that proved to match.
During my internship, I worked as a technical support assistant, using my specialist knowledge at the intersection of technology and media to advise the company on how to navigate the capricious and evolving landscape of the industry in the age of AI.
This work culminated in a final presentation to over 60% of the company, covering the current state of the industry and public perspectives on generative AI and its role in both corporate and creative spaces.
This was my first experience in a corporate workplace. As a young neurodivergent queer person, I feared there were only a few narrow avenues available to me in my career - but my colleagues at LS Productions showed me a standard of professionalism and compassion that gave me the confidence to know I can be an asset to any company I work for. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
As I see the next cohort of applicants make their way to assessment centres across the country, I wish them all the best. This is a fantastic opportunity, and I know the Saltire kite on my CV will serve me well for years to come!
