My time at SharkNinja in Boston was an absolutely fantastic experience. The company, the people, the environment, and the work I was involved in were all outstanding. I fully immersed myself in the whole experience and have taken away so much from my time there. As a mechanical engineering intern in the New Product Development for Personal Care team, my day-to-day work varied greatly. I was involved in everything from designing and building to testing and analysis, to working on my own robotics project. This made my work really exciting and allowed me to learn new skills in so many different areas.
My main project was designing, building, and coding a 3-axis robot for testing purposes. I had a lot of freedom with the project, which gave me the opportunity to experiment and learn. After expressing interest in developing my coding skills, it was the perfect project for me!
One of the things I enjoyed the most was getting into the workshop spaces and getting involved in the design and development of new products. This involved lots of electronics work, CAD, and 3D printing, as well as thorough performance testing. The fast-paced, hands-on environment allowed me to learn so many new skills and gave me the opportunities and support to apply my existing skills. At the end of my internship, Shark released one of the products I had been working on, which was a really rewarding end to the experience.
From the very first day, I felt respected and supported by those on my team, which made the experience even more special. SharkNinja has a huge intake of co-ops, and it was a really fun, social place. I enjoyed meeting so many people and spending time with them both in the office and out of the office.
Boston was the perfect location for my internship. It's an amazing city and so well connected to other cities. I did a lot of travelling and exploring on the weekends with the other interns and made a trip to NYC at the end of the experience. It was a great chance to experience a new environment and get a taste of a different culture, which pushed me out of my comfort zone.
