I am beyond grateful to Saltire Programmes and Entrepreneurial Scotland for giving me the chance to get an internship. It has shaped my future career and goals in so many ways. Firstly, my Business Strategy and Operations internship with Unanet has allowed me to experience how a SME company works in the United of States of America. I have learned about their work culture and their dynamics. Moreover, I have learned about the software industry and the different types of products and solutions that exist in the market.
Furthermore, I worked directly with Unanet’s Chief Strategy Officer where I had the opportunity to learn first-hand from an amazing professional. Regarding the projects I carried out, one of them consisted in doing a Mergers and Acquisitions database and landscape with over 550 companies that Unanet could be interested in acquiring in the future. While doing this project I learn the importance of knowing the company’s strategy regarding a certain product (building it in-house, acquiring or doing a partnership with another corporation). In my internship I also had the chance of talking with key Unanet employees that work in departments I am also interested in and this concluded in me talking to the General Counsel, the Vice-President of Finance, the Director of Technology Partners and 15 other employees.
Also, working virtually has opened my horizons and showed me the benefits of working from home while still maintaining constant contact with my manager.
I can’t express my gratitude of having fulfilled this internship. Not only I am now part of a very talented cohort of students but it has also broadened my future career paths. Now, when I am about to begin my final year of University, I am thinking of maybe getting a graduate job in a software company, something it never occurred to me before. I know that wherever my future career brings me it wouldn’t have been possible without Saltire Programmes and Unanet.
