Olympian Eilish McColgan to share lessons from elite sport with Scotland’s business leaders

The Commonwealth Games champion will discuss performance, mindset and peer networks ahead of the 2026 games as part of an Entrepreneurial Scotland event.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist and four-time Olympian Eilish McColgan is set to share lessons from elite sport with Scotland’s business leaders as part of a leadership webinar hosted by Entrepreneurial Scotland.

The event, titled Who You Run with Matters: The Power of the Right Peer Network, will take place online on Tuesday 17 March at 3pm and invites founders and senior business leaders from across Scotland to take part. With Glasgow preparing to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the session offers a timely opportunity to hear from one of Scotland’s leading athletes.

McColgan, one of Scotland’s most decorated distance runners, will share her story in a fireside conversation exploring what competing at the highest level of international sport has taught her about resilience, mindset and the importance of the people around you in sustaining performance over time.

The discussion will be hosted by endurance cyclist, broadcaster and investor Mark Beaumont, who will draw out parallels between elite sport and leadership in business.

The event will also introduce Entrepreneurial Scotland’s peer support programme, The Exchange. The programme connects founders and senior business leaders through structured peer boards where leaders challenge thinking, share experience and support one another through the pressures of building and scaling organisations.

As part of the session, Entrepreneurial Scotland will host breakout discussions led by members of The Exchange, including women leaders and founders building businesses across Scotland’s rural and regional communities. The discussions will offer participants a chance to hear how leaders from diverse backgrounds are accessing trusted peer support and leadership networks.

Eilish McColgan said:

“In elite sport, success is never a solo effort. Behind every performance is a team of people who challenge you, support you and push you to improve. Having the right people around you can make all the difference, and I’m looking forward to discussing how that idea translates into leadership and business.”

Sean McGrath, CEO of Entrepreneurial Scotland, said:

“The right peer network can be one of the most powerful assets a leader has. Having a trusted group of people who understand the realities of leadership and can offer honest perspective can make a real difference when navigating complex decisions and periods of growth.

“This webinar is an opportunity for founders and senior leaders across Scotland to experience the type of peer support that sits at the heart of The Exchange.”
